Online store for seeds

Sell seeds online before sowing season starts

Gardeners plan in winter and buy before they sow, so a good way to sell seeds online is one page per variety, ready before the season starts. Cornerrr builds that seed shop: packet and bulk sizes as options, sowing notes, stock that ends with your harvest and a Stripe checkout.

Step by step

How to sell seeds online in 6 steps.

  1. Learn your seed labeling rules

In the US, seed packets generally need a label with details such as the variety, a lot number and a germination or packed-for date, and many states ask packet sellers for a permit. Your state seed control office can tell you what applies.

  2. Give each variety its own page

Days to maturity, plant height, sun, spacing and when to sow, plus the story of the variety if it has one. Gardeners search by variety name, so put it in the product title.

  3. Sell packet sizes as options

A standard packet, a larger pack and a bulk weight can be options on one product, each with its own price and stock. Give the seed count or weight, not just the size name.

  4. Open the shop before people plan

Many gardeners order seed in winter while they plan their beds. List the new season’s varieties early, and put the cut-off for spring shipping on the home page.

  5. Show the plant, not just the packet

Photograph the grown plant, the harvest and the seed itself. If you use a stock photo or a drawing of a variety, say that it’s an illustration.

  6. Keep shipping light

Seed packets travel well in padded envelopes. Set a low fixed rate for small orders and a second rate for bulk, and add a free-shipping discount code for larger orders if your margins allow it.

Built in

A shop made for seeds, not a blank template.

  • Stock that ends with the harvest

Set stock for each variety and packet size, so checkout stops when a variety sells out. Add more when the next harvest is cleaned and packed.

  • Growing guides as downloads

Sell a sowing chart or growing guide as a digital download on any paid plan. Buyers get the file after payment and keep it in their account.

  • A blog for the gardening questions

On the Growth plan you can post about when to sow, how to save seed and what grows well where you are. Those are the questions gardeners search for while they plan.

  • Bulk orders for market growers on request

Farms and market gardeners who need large amounts can send a request with the variety and weight, and you reply with a quote by email.

Good to know

  • Seeds across borders

Many countries limit seeds sent by mail and expect a phytosanitary certificate, and the US asks for a certificate or an import permit for most seeds coming in. If you ship abroad, check each country’s rules first.

  • Germination and honesty

Test a sample from each lot and give the germination rate or test date where your rules ask for it. Gardeners trust seed sellers who are open about what to expect.

  • Organic claims need certification

In the US and the EU, selling seeds as “organic” generally needs organic certification. Words such as “untreated” or “open-pollinated” are useful, and safer, when they’re true.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need a permit to sell seeds online?

Often, yes. Many US states ask businesses that sell seed packets to their residents for a permit or registration, and labeling rules apply too. Check with the seed control office in your state and in the states you ship to.

How should I ship seed packets?

In padded envelopes or small boxes that keep them flat and dry. When you mail an order, add the tracking number in Cornerrr and the customer gets a shipping email with the link.

Can I sell seeds to other countries?

Sometimes, but many countries restrict seed imports and some refuse seeds by mail. On Cornerrr you choose the countries you ship to, so start with your own and add others once you know their rules.

Can I sell a seed subscription?

Yes, on the Growth plan. A seasonal box, such as four deliveries a year, can bill every three months through Stripe, and subscribers see the plan in their account.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
