Step by step

How to sell honey online in 6 steps.

  1. Sell each harvest as a limited batch

Spring, summer and late-season honey taste different. Give each its own product with stock set to the jars you filled, and say plainly that it’s gone until next year once it sells out.

  2. Say where the bees forage

Name the flowers or crops near your hives and the area they’re in. Honey buyers want to know it’s local and real, and a named place says that better than “pure” or “natural”.

  3. Explain crystallization before anyone asks

Raw honey sets over time. Say on each product that this is natural and how to soften it in warm water, or you’ll get emails asking whether it has gone bad.

  4. Photograph against the light

Shoot jars with daylight behind them so the color glows, plus one photo of comb honey cut open. Color is how buyers tell a light clover honey from a dark buckwheat.

  5. Pack for leaks

Use lids with liners or tape them down, bag each jar and box them snugly. Weigh a parcel of your most common order, set a fixed rate that covers it, and add a free-shipping code above an order amount.

  6. Add the hive products

Beeswax candles, food wraps, lip balm and comb honey come from the same hives and raise the order value. Give them their own collection on the website.

Built in

A shop made for honey, not a blank template.

  • Harvests with their own stock

Each honey and jar size has its own stock, so when the spring harvest sells out, checkout stops for it while summer honey stays on sale.

  • Bulk orders on request

Bakers, cafés and shops buying buckets can send a request with the quantity they need. It lands in your Inbox and you reply with a price by email.

  • An adopt-a-hive subscription

On the Growth plan, a yearly or monthly hive adoption can be billed by Stripe, with honey from that season sent to the subscriber. They see the plan in their account.

  • Listings from a photo

Take a photo of a jar and Cornerrr drafts the product listing, alt text and tags. You add the floral source and harvest date, then publish.

Good to know

  • The warning for babies

Honey can carry botulism spores that are dangerous for babies, so health agencies advise against giving honey to children under 12 months. Many beekeepers put that warning on the label and on every product page.

  • What a honey label needs

In the US, a plain honey label usually needs the name, net weight and your name and address. In the UK and EU, honey labels must also show the country or countries of origin. Check the honey rules where you sell.

  • Selling from home

Many US states exempt small beekeepers or cover honey under cottage food laws, sometimes with a sales limit. In the UK and EU, selling honey usually means registering as a food business. Check with your state or local authority.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need a license to sell honey online?

Often not a full license, but the rules vary. Many US states exempt small beekeepers or treat honey as a cottage food, and some limit online or out-of-state sales. In the UK and EU you register with your local authority. Check before you ship.

Can I ship honey in glass jars?

Yes, with care: secure the lids against leaks, bag each jar and pack them so they can’t touch. Plastic jars and squeeze bottles are lighter to post, and many beekeepers offer both.

Should I tell buyers that honey crystallizes?

Yes. Crystallizing is natural and depends on the flowers, so explain it on every product page along with how to soften the honey gently in warm water. It saves you emails and refunds.

Can I sell beeswax candles and lip balm on the same website?

Yes. Add them as products in their own collection. Lip balm is a cosmetic with rules of its own, separate from food: in the UK and EU, for example, it needs a safety assessment before you sell it.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
