What is iDEAL | Wero?
iDEAL lets Dutch customers pay straight from their bank account: they choose it at checkout, approve in their own banking app or online banking, and Stripe tells you right away whether it worked. iDEAL has been bought by the company behind Wero, a European payment wallet, so it now shows as “iDEAL | Wero”. Paying works as before, and Stripe asks businesses to move to Wero during 2026 and 2027.

On your Stripe checkout, for an order in euros, the customer picks iDEAL | Wero.
Go to their own bank
They are sent to their bank’s app or online banking. Each bank’s screens look a little different, but customers know their own.
Approve the payment
They confirm with their usual bank login and second check, such as a fingerprint or a code.
Back to you, already paid
Stripe confirms immediately, the customer returns to your website and Cornerrr marks the order paid and emails the confirmation.

Turn the method on in Stripe
In your Stripe Dashboard, open the payment method settings and turn it on. Stripe may ask a few questions about your business first.

Your Cornerrr checkout is Stripe Checkout, so customers who can use the method see it automatically when their country and your currency match.

What does “iDEAL | Wero” mean for my shop?
Wero, a payment wallet from a group of European banks, has taken over iDEAL, so Stripe now shows the method as iDEAL | Wero. Dutch customers still pay with their bank as before. Stripe plans to move Dutch bank payments to Wero during 2026 and 2027, so watch for Stripe’s emails about turning Wero on in your Dashboard.
How do I turn on iDEAL | Wero with Cornerrr?
Connect your Stripe account, then turn on iDEAL in your Stripe Dashboard’s payment method settings. With your store priced in euros, Cornerrr’s Stripe Checkout shows iDEAL | Wero to eligible customers automatically. If your business is Dutch, the scheme’s rules ask you to show your KVK number on your website, for example on your Contact or About page.
Can customers pay for a subscription with iDEAL?
Yes, on the Growth plan. The customer pays the first invoice with iDEAL | Wero, and Stripe saves their bank account as a SEPA Direct Debit for the renewals. Turn on iDEAL recurring payments in your Stripe payment method settings first. With a free trial, Stripe makes a tiny verification charge through iDEAL and refunds it at once.
How do iDEAL refunds work?
You can refund all or part of a payment for up to 180 days. A refund can show as pending for up to seven days before it counts as complete.
Do I need a Dutch business to accept iDEAL?
No. Stripe accounts in the EU, the UK, Switzerland, the US and other countries can accept it. If you aren’t based in the Netherlands, show your registration number from your own country’s official register on your website instead of a KVK number.
Do I need any technical skills?
No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.
