Payments

How people in Spain pay online.

Cards are the main way to pay online in Spain, and many shoppers pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay on their phone. Klarna and Scalapay let customers spread a purchase over installments, and Revolut Pay suits people who bank with Revolut. PayPal is popular in Spain too, but it isn’t available through Cornerrr’s checkout today, so put cards and wallets first. SEPA Direct Debit suits regular payments.

Before you start

Selling online in Spain: what to know.

  1. IVA from your first sale

Spain hasn’t adopted a small-business VAT exemption, so you charge IVA from your first sale: 21% standard, with reduced rates of 10% and 4%. Most autónomos file IVA returns every quarter. Show consumer prices with IVA included.

  2. Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla

They are outside the EU VAT area: Spanish IVA doesn’t apply to parcels you send there, the Canary Islands charge their own tax (IGIC), and shipments need customs paperwork. Decide whether you ship there and say so on your delivery page.

  3. An aviso legal under the LSSI

The LSSI asks you to show your name or company name, NIF, address and email, and for companies their Registro Mercantil details. Most Spanish shops put them on an “Aviso legal” page, which you can add on Cornerrr.

  4. Derecho de desistimiento

Consumers have 14 calendar days from delivery to withdraw, and you refund within 14 days. Explain how in your terms and include the model form. EU rules in force since 19 June 2026 add an online withdrawal function; Cornerrr adds one to your store’s footer (“Desistir del contrato aquí” on a store in Spanish) and emails the customer an acknowledgement of receipt; mention it in your terms.

  5. Privacy under the RGPD and LOPDGDD

GDPR and Spain’s own data protection law (LOPDGDD) apply, overseen by the AEPD. Publish a privacy policy, ask only for what you need, and keep newsletter consent separate from the order.

  6. Rebajas and discounts

When you announce a discount, the reference price is the lowest price you charged in the previous 30 days. The January and July rebajas are the big moments of the year, followed by Black Friday.

General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.

Cornerrr

Built for businesses in Spain

  • Prices in euros

Set your store’s currency to EUR and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.

  • VAT at checkout

Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.

  • Your words in Spanish

Describe your business in Spanish and Cornerrr writes your pages in Spanish. Stripe Checkout shows in Spanish too. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today.

  • Local ways to pay

Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Local tips

Make it feel local

  • Ship with Correos or a courier

Correos is the usual choice for small parcels, with SEUR, MRW and GLS for faster delivery. Say whether you ship to the Balearic Islands and what it costs there, since many shops charge more for the islands.

  • Plan for Reyes, not only Christmas

Many Spanish families give presents on 6 January, Día de Reyes. Put your order cut-off date for Reyes delivery on the home page in December, along with your Christmas dates.

  • Spanish reaches everyone, regions notice

Spanish reaches customers across the country. If most of yours are in Catalonia, the Basque Country or Galicia, a website in Catalan, Basque or Galician can feel more local; Cornerrr writes one language per website, so choose the one your customers use most.

  • Let autónomos add their NIF

Many buyers are autónomos who need an invoice with their tax number. Turn on tax ID collection at checkout so business buyers can enter it, and ask your gestor how invoices for website orders should look.

How it works

From a few words to your website, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can my website be in Spanish?

Yes. Describe your business in Spanish and Cornerrr writes all the website’s words in Spanish, and Stripe’s checkout page is shown in Spanish. A few built-in labels on the cart and account pages are in English today; the add-to-cart and checkout buttons are yours to rename.

Do I need to be an autónomo to sell online?

If you sell regularly, in most cases yes: register in Hacienda’s census and with Social Security as an autónomo, or set up a company. A gestor can tell you what fits. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Can I ship to the Canary Islands?

You can, but IVA doesn’t apply there and parcels need customs paperwork, which adds time for your customer. Say plainly on your delivery page whether you ship to the Canaries and what it costs, and check the paperwork with your gestor.

Can customers pay in installments?

Yes. Turn on Klarna or Scalapay in your Stripe Dashboard and they appear at checkout for eligible orders, while Stripe pays you the full amount upfront.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
