Cornerrr in the United Kingdom
Describe what you sell and Cornerrr builds an online store priced in pounds, with product pages, delivery rates and a Stripe checkout. Below are the VAT, consumer and data rules a small UK shop should know before the first order.
Payments
Most UK shoppers pay by debit card, often through Apple Pay or Google Pay on their phone. Buy now, pay later is well known through Clearpay and Klarna. Pay by Bank lets customers approve a payment in their banking app without a card, Revolut Pay suits people who bank with Revolut, and Bacs Direct Debit fits regular payments from UK bank accounts. PayPal is familiar to UK shoppers, but it isn’t available through Cornerrr’s checkout today.
Before you start
You must register for VAT when your taxable turnover over the last 12 months goes above £90,000, or when you expect it to within the next 30 days. Below that you can register voluntarily. Businesses based outside the UK that sell to UK customers usually have to register from their first sale.
Prices shown to consumers must include VAT, and since April 2025 any fee every customer has to pay belongs in the headline price too. Make delivery costs clear before checkout. Stripe Tax’s automatic setting treats pound prices as VAT-inclusive.
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, online customers can cancel within 14 days of receiving their goods, and you refund within 14 days of getting them back, including standard delivery. Personalized items, perishables and unsealed hygiene products are exceptions. Say who pays for return postage, or it’s you.
The E-Commerce Regulations ask you to show your business name, a geographic address, an email address and your VAT number if you have one. Limited companies also show their registered number and registered office. Put them on your Contact page; you can add any page you need on Cornerrr.
UK GDPR covers the customer data you collect. Publish a privacy policy (Cornerrr’s AI drafts one for you to review), collect only what you need, and use the ICO’s online check to see whether you must pay its yearly data protection fee; most businesses that handle personal data do.
Since Brexit, parcels to EU customers are imports at their end. Unless you register for the EU’s Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) for parcels worth up to €150, your customer may pay VAT and a handling fee on delivery. Say so on your delivery page, or ship within the UK at first.
General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.
Cornerrr
Set your store’s currency to GBP and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.
Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.
Describe your business and Cornerrr writes every page in plain British or Irish English, then you change anything by asking.
Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Local tips
Royal Mail, Evri, DPD and Parcelforce are the usual choices for small shops. Say which one you use and your dispatch days, and if the Highlands, islands or Northern Ireland cost more to reach, say so. Add a Royal Mail or DHL tracking number and the shipping email links straight to tracking.
Mothering Sunday falls in March in the UK, weeks before the US Mother’s Day, and Royal Mail publishes last recommended posting dates before Christmas each year. Put your own order cut-off dates on the home page a few weeks ahead.
If you deliver locally, name the towns and postcode areas you cover, such as “Leeds and LS postcodes”. People search with their town, and a clear area saves you emails asking whether you deliver to them.
Customers buying furniture, clothing bundles or art often like to spread the cost. Turn on Clearpay or Klarna in your Stripe Dashboard and they appear at checkout for eligible orders, while Stripe pays you the full amount.
How it works
A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.
Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.
Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.
Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.
