What is Amazon Pay?

Amazon Pay lets people pay on other websites with the payment details saved in their Amazon account. The customer signs in to Amazon during checkout, confirms, and comes back to your store. Stripe offers it to businesses in the US and in many European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Switzerland, and customers can pay from anywhere. A US business takes it in US dollars only.

How your customers pay

  1. Amazon Pay at checkout

The customer chooses Amazon Pay on Stripe Checkout, alongside cards and the other methods you offer.

  2. Sign in to Amazon

Stripe sends them to Amazon’s own checkout page, where they sign in to their Amazon account.

  3. Pay with what Amazon already has

They confirm with a card saved in their Amazon account, so there’s nothing new to type. In some countries Amazon offers other ways to pay there too.

  4. Back to your store

Once Amazon authorizes the payment, Stripe confirms it straight away and the customer lands on your order confirmation page, with your order email to follow.

Why offer it

Why businesses take Amazon Pay

  • A familiar sign-in for a first order

A toy store or hardware shop found in a search is a stranger to the customer; Amazon isn’t. Signing in to an account they already use can make that first order feel less risky.

  • Fewer details to type

The customer pays with a card already saved at Amazon, so there’s no card number to enter on a phone and fewer chances to mistype it.

  • The customer stays yours

Unlike selling on Amazon’s marketplace, the order happens on your website: your prices, your product pages, your order emails and your customer list. Amazon only handles the payment step.

  • Subscriptions supported

Amazon Pay supports recurring payments in Stripe Checkout, so a monthly pet food or book box on the Growth plan can be paid with it.

Set up

Turn on Amazon Pay in three steps.

  1. Connect your Stripe account

Link the Stripe account you already have, or create one in a few minutes from Cornerrr. Payments go straight to it; Cornerrr adds no transaction fee.

  2. Turn the method on in Stripe

In your Stripe Dashboard, open the payment method settings and turn it on. Stripe may ask a few questions about your business first.

  3. It shows at checkout

Your Cornerrr checkout is Stripe Checkout, so customers who can use the method see it automatically when their country and your currency match.

Questions

Good to know

How do I turn on Amazon Pay on my Cornerrr store?

Connect your Stripe account and turn on Amazon Pay in your Stripe Dashboard’s payment method settings. Cornerrr’s Stripe Checkout then offers it to eligible customers automatically, as long as your store’s currency is one Amazon Pay takes for your country.

Which businesses can offer Amazon Pay through Stripe?

Businesses with a Stripe account in the US, the UK, Switzerland and much of the EU, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland and Sweden. Customers can pay from anywhere.

Can I use Amazon Pay for subscriptions?

Yes. Amazon Pay supports recurring payments in Stripe Checkout. Subscriptions on Cornerrr need the Growth plan.

How do Amazon Pay refunds work?

Refund through Stripe, in full or in part, within 90 days of the payment, and your store emails the customer. Amazon returns the money to what the customer paid with; for some non-card options it can take up to 14 days.

Does offering Amazon Pay mean selling on Amazon?

No. Your products stay on your own website and nothing is listed on Amazon’s marketplace. Amazon Pay is only a way to pay, and you don’t need an Amazon seller account.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
