Step by step

How to sell candles online in 6 steps.

  1. Decide what your shop is known for

Pick the line people should remember: seasonal scents, clean soy wax, wooden wicks, or candles made for gifts. One clear idea makes your home page and your product names easier to write.

  2. Turn scents and sizes into options

List each scent once, with sizes, jar colors or wax types as options and stock for each. Customers pick what they want on one page instead of scrolling through near-identical products.

  3. Photograph candles lit and unlit

Shoot in daylight, one photo lit and one with the label facing the camera, plus one in a room for scale. Cornerrr can write a listing from your photo, which you then edit.

  4. Write the details buyers check

Burn time, wax, wick, size, scent notes and safety care: put the same facts on every product, in the same order. Buyers compare candles on exactly these points.

  5. Set shipping that covers glass

Jars are heavy and fragile. Weigh a packed parcel of each size, then set fixed shipping rates that cover it, and use a free-shipping discount code above an order amount you choose.

  6. Plan for gifting seasons

Most candle shops sell the most before the winter holidays, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. Add gift sets a few weeks ahead and say clearly when the last order date for delivery is.

Built in

A shop made for candles, not a blank template.

  • Options and stock per scent

Every scent can have sizes and wax types as options, each with its own price and stock. Checkout stops when one runs out, so you never oversell a batch.

  • Wholesale and custom orders on request

Mark wholesale and custom-label candles “price on request”. Shops and couples send you the details through a form and the request lands in your Inbox.

  • Taxes and shipping handled at checkout

Stripe Tax can work out sales tax or VAT for each order, and your fixed shipping rates appear at checkout, with the countries you ship to.

  • Change it by asking

Ask the assistant to add your winter collection, rewrite every product description in a cozier voice or start a holiday discount code, then apply it with one click.

Good to know

  • Safety labels

In the US, candle makers commonly follow the ASTM fire-safety labeling standard, and in the UK and EU scented candles need CLP hazard labels when their fragrance calls for it. Check what applies to your scents before you ship.

  • Price for your time, not just wax

Add up wax, fragrance, wick, jar, label, packaging and your hours for each size. Shops that price on materials alone often can’t afford wholesale or free-shipping offers later.

  • Keep scent names consistent

Use the same scent names on your website, your labels and your market stall. Returning customers search for the name they remember.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need a business license to sell candles online?

Rules depend on where you live. Many places ask home businesses to register or hold a basic business license, and some have rules for selling from home. Check with your city, county or local council before you start selling.

How do I ship candles without them melting or breaking?

Wrap jars well, pack them snugly in a sturdy box and avoid leaving parcels in hot vans for long in summer. On Cornerrr you set the shipping rates and add the tracking number, and your customer gets a shipping email with a tracking link.

Can I sell candles as a subscription?

Yes. On the Growth plan a monthly candle box can be a subscription that Stripe bills automatically, and subscribers see their plan in their account.

Can I sell candles online and at markets?

Yes. Your website takes online orders with stock tracking, and you can put your market dates on the home page so local buyers know where to find you in person.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
