Payments

How people in Ireland pay online.

Irish shoppers mostly pay by debit or credit card, and paying with Apple Pay or Google Pay on a phone is an everyday habit. Revolut is widely used in Ireland, so Revolut Pay is worth turning on. Klarna lets customers split a purchase into installments, Pay by Bank lets them approve a payment in their banking app, and SEPA Direct Debit suits regular payments.

Before you start

Selling online in Ireland: what to know.

  1. VAT registration thresholds

You must register for VAT once your turnover passes €85,000 a year if at least 90% of it comes from selling goods, or €42,500 otherwise. The standard rate is 23%, with reduced rates for some goods and services. Show consumer prices including VAT.

  2. Selling to other EU countries

Once your sales to consumers elsewhere in the EU pass €10,000 a year in total, you charge VAT at their country’s rate. Revenue’s One-Stop Shop lets you declare all of it in one Irish return.

  3. Cancellation rights

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 and EU rules, online customers can cancel within 14 days of delivery and get their money back within 14 days. Since 19 June 2026 EU law also expects an online withdrawal function; Cornerrr adds a withdrawal button to your store’s footer and emails the customer an acknowledgement of receipt; mention it in your cancellation information.

  4. Show your business and CRO details

Show your business name, a geographic address, an email address and, if registered, your VAT number. Companies also show their CRO number and registered office. A Contact or About page is the natural place.

  5. GDPR and the Data Protection Commission

GDPR applies, overseen by the Data Protection Commission. Publish a privacy policy that names the services you use, such as Stripe, and keep forms to what you need. Cornerrr’s AI drafts one for you to review.

General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.

Cornerrr

Built for businesses in Ireland

  • Prices in euros

Set your store’s currency to EUR and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.

  • VAT at checkout

Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.

  • Words written for your customers

Describe your business and Cornerrr writes every page in plain British or Irish English, then you change anything by asking.

  • Local ways to pay

Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Local tips

Make it feel local

  • Ask for the Eircode

Many Irish addresses, especially rural ones, have no house number or share a name with neighbors. Ask customers to include their Eircode in the address, and say so on your delivery page.

  • Make your Irish address a selling point

Since Brexit, orders from Britain can bring customs charges and delays, so many Irish shoppers look for a shop based in Ireland. Show your address and say that you ship from Ireland.

  • Name your carrier and your Christmas cut-off

An Post and DPD Ireland carry most small parcels. Say which one you use and your dispatch days, and put your last order date for Christmas delivery on the home page from November.

  • Get found by county and town

Irish searches often include a county or town. Put yours in your page titles and your About page, and link your website from your Google Business Profile.

How it works

From a few words to your website, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can I use a .ie domain?

Yes. .ie domains need a connection to the island of Ireland, such as an address or a business here. Register it with a .ie registrar, then connect it on any paid plan; Cornerrr sets up HTTPS automatically.

Do I need to register for VAT before I start selling online?

Not until your turnover passes the thresholds (€85,000 for goods, €42,500 for services), though you can register earlier. Once registered, Stripe Tax can work out VAT at checkout on any paid plan. This is general information; check with Revenue or an accountant.

Can I sell to customers in Britain?

Yes, add the UK to the countries you ship to. But selling to Great Britain counts as exporting, and UK rules ask overseas sellers to register for UK VAT even for small parcels, so check with your accountant before you open to UK orders.

Does Cornerrr take a cut of my sales?

No. Customers pay through your own Stripe account, the money goes straight to you, and Cornerrr adds no transaction fee on top of Stripe’s.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
