Step by step

How to sell outdoor gear online in 6 steps.

  1. Organize by trip, not only by brand

Hikers shop for a trip: day hikes, backpacking, winter camping, a first night out with kids. Make a collection for each, and a beginner’s kit list that names the products a first overnight needs.

  2. Put the specs buyers compare first

Packed weight, capacity in liters, waterproof rating, comfort and limit temperatures for sleeping bags, and materials. Use the same order on every product so buyers can compare two tents at a glance.

  3. Size with real measurements

Torso length for packs, chest and sleeve length for jackets, and a fit note from someone on your team who wore it. Fewer wrong sizes means fewer returns of muddy boxes.

  4. Sell used gear as one-offs

Give each checked used item a stock of one, photos of real wear and a note of what you tested: seams, zips, poles, buckles. Once it sells, checkout stops, so the same tent is never sold twice.

  5. Take rentals and repairs as requests

Mark rentals and repairs “price on request”. People send the dates and the gear they need, the request lands in your Inbox, and you confirm by email with what you have.

  6. Change the shop with the seasons

Put hiking and camping gear up front in spring, snow gear before the first cold weekend, and clear last season’s colors with a discount code that ends on a set date.

Built in

A shop made for outdoor gear, not a blank template.

  • Sizes and colors with their own stock

A jacket in five sizes and three colors keeps stock for each, and checkout stops when one is sold out, so the medium in blue never oversells.

  • Shipping rates that cover bulky parcels

Set fixed shipping rates with delivery estimates that cover your bulkiest boxes, choose the countries you ship to, and offer free shipping with a code above an order amount you pick.

  • Rental and repair requests in your Inbox

Requests arrive by email and in your Inbox with the dates and gear the form asked for, and you answer each one by email.

  • Trail notes on your blog

On the Growth plan, write packing lists and route notes that mention the gear you sell. Useful posts give people planning a trip a reason to find your shop.

Good to know

  • Quote ratings, don’t round them up

Give waterproof and temperature ratings as the maker states them, with the standard they were tested to (often ISO 23537 for sleeping bags). Don’t promise warmth or dryness in every condition.

  • Safety gear has its own rules

Climbing harnesses, helmets and similar protective equipment fall under personal protective equipment rules in the EU and UK, with CE or UKCA marking. Sell properly marked items, and think twice before selling used safety gear.

  • Gas canisters and fuel

Camping gas and liquid fuel are dangerous goods for many carriers and postal services. Check your carrier’s rules before you list them for shipping.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can I sell used outdoor gear on my website?

Yes. List each item with a stock of one, honest photos of wear and what you checked. Once it’s paid for, stock drops to zero and checkout stops taking orders for it.

Can customers rent gear through my website?

They can ask for it. Mark rentals “price on request”, and the request with their dates lands in your Inbox. You confirm and agree payment by email; Cornerrr doesn’t reserve rental dates automatically.

How do I ship tents and big packs without losing money?

Weigh and measure each packed size, compare carriers for parcels that big, and set fixed rates that cover them. You add the tracking number to the order and the customer gets a shipping email with the link.

Can I sell big outdoor brands on my own website?

Usually, if you’re an authorized dealer. Some brands have online selling rules or pricing policies for their dealers, so check your dealer agreement before you list their gear.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
