Step by step

How to sell fitness equipment online in 6 steps.

  1. Make weights and sizes options

One kettlebell product with each weight as an option, its own price and its own stock, rather than twelve near-identical products. Buyers compare on one page and add a pair in one go.

  2. Publish dimensions and load limits

Footprint, height, the ceiling height a rack needs, maximum user weight and maximum load, in pounds and kilograms if you sell on both sides of the Atlantic. Buyers measure the spare room before they buy.

  3. Price heavy items with delivery in mind

Plates and racks cost a lot to move. Weigh packed parcels, set fixed rates that cover them, and use “price on request” for anything that goes on a pallet, so you can quote delivery by email.

  4. Show the equipment in use

Photograph real home setups and correct form, plus close-ups of grips, welds and coatings. Buyers of heavy equipment look for signs of quality they can’t feel online.

  5. Sell to studios on request

Studios want bulk prices, delivery dates and invoices. Mark fit-outs and bulk orders “price on request”, and turn on tax ID collection for business buyers who order at checkout.

  6. Stock up before January

Home fitness sales tend to rise with New Year resolutions and again before summer. Have stock in before then and run a discount code with a firm end date.

Built in

A shop made for fitness equipment, not a blank template.

  • Every weight with its own stock

Each weight keeps its own stock, so if the 16 kg kettlebell sells out before the 8 kg one, checkout stops for that weight only.

  • Business buyers and invoices

Studios and gyms can add their tax ID at checkout, Stripe Tax works out the tax once it’s active on your account, and one-time orders come with invoices.

  • Fixed rates with delivery estimates

Set up to five fixed shipping rates per currency, each with a delivery estimate, and limit the countries you ship to where heavy parcels make sense.

  • Price changes by asking

Ask the assistant to raise prices on every plate set or to start a January discount code. You see each change before you apply it, and can undo it.

Good to know

  • Product safety details on the listing

In the EU, the General Product Safety Regulation expects online listings to show the maker’s name and contact details, a product identifier and any warnings. Wherever you sell, keep the maker’s instructions and weight limits with each product.

  • Inspect used equipment

Check cables, pins, pulleys and welds before reselling used machines and racks, and describe any repairs. You’re responsible for what you sell, secondhand or not.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

How do I ship heavy fitness equipment?

Smaller items go as parcels; racks and plate sets often need a freight carrier. Set fixed rates that cover parcels and use “price on request” for anything on a pallet, quoting delivery by email.

Can I sell to gyms and studios on the same website?

Yes. Home buyers order at checkout, and studios use a request form for bulk quotes that lands in your Inbox. Turn on tax ID collection so business buyers can add their VAT or tax number.

Is it worth selling refurbished gym equipment?

It appeals to buyers on a budget if you describe condition honestly, list what you replaced and say how returns work. Give each refurbished machine its own product with a stock of one.

Can Cornerrr write my fitness equipment descriptions?

Yes. Upload a photo and Cornerrr drafts the listing, alt text and tags. Then ask the assistant to put load limits and dimensions in the same place in every description.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
