Step by step

How to sell gift baskets online in 6 steps.

  1. Organize by occasion

New baby, sympathy, thank you, housewarming, the holidays. Buyers arrive with an occasion in mind and little time, so name your collections by occasion, not by what’s inside.

  2. List every item in the basket

Say exactly what’s inside, with sizes and the makers’ names. People send baskets to someone they want to impress, so they need to know what will arrive.

  3. Offer two or three sizes

Small, medium and large as options with their own prices and stock make choosing quick. Write out the contents of each size so nobody is surprised.

  4. Set last order dates for the big days

Mother’s Day, the winter holidays and the end of the year for companies. Give a last order date for delivery before each and put it on the home page.

  5. Photograph the basket you actually ship

Shoot the real basket, wrapped and unwrapped, in daylight. If the photo shows things that aren’t included, buyers and recipients feel let down when the box arrives.

  6. Handle corporate orders separately

A company sending baskets to fifty clients needs a quote, a spreadsheet of recipients and an invoice. Make corporate gifts a request form, and work out the details by email.

Built in

A shop made for gift baskets, not a blank template.

  • Sizes and stock per basket

Each basket can have sizes as options with their own prices and stock, so when you run out of one maker’s jam, you can close that basket without touching the rest.

  • Corporate requests in your Inbox

Corporate gifts hide their price and cart button. Companies send the quantity, delivery date and what they’d like to spend, and the request lands in your Inbox.

  • Tax IDs and invoices for companies

Business buyers can enter a tax ID at checkout, and one-time orders come with an invoice, which company buyers usually ask for.

  • Shipping emails with tracking

Set fixed shipping rates with delivery estimates. Add the tracking number to an order and the buyer gets a shipping email with the link, so they can tell the recipient when to expect it.

Good to know

  • Buying products to resell

If your baskets hold other makers’ products, buy them at wholesale with the maker’s permission and keep their labels intact. In the US, check whether you need a sales tax permit and resale certificates in your state.

  • Food and alcohol inside

Packing pre-labeled food from licensed makers is simpler than making your own. Adding wine or spirits brings alcohol licensing and shipping rules, and perishables need cold shipping. Check the rules before you add them.

  • Packing that survives the trip

Shrink-wrapped wicker looks lovely but gets crushed in a carrier’s network. Many senders ship a sturdy gift box with filler instead, and keep wicker baskets for local delivery.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can customers send a gift basket to someone else?

Yes. At Stripe Checkout the buyer enters the delivery address, which can be the recipient’s. For orders going to many addresses at once, ask them to send a corporate request instead.

How do I take bulk corporate gift orders?

Mark corporate gifts “price on request”. Companies send the quantity, delivery date and the amount they’d like to spend through a form, the request lands in your Cornerrr Inbox, and you reply with a quote by email.

Do I need a license to sell gift baskets?

Usually a business registration and, in the US, a sales tax permit. If you make the food yourself or add alcohol, more rules apply; reselling packaged food from licensed makers is simpler. Check with your state or local authority.

Can I sell a monthly gift box as a subscription?

Yes, on the Growth plan. Stripe bills the box every month, and subscribers see it in their account. Say on the page what a typical box holds and when it ships.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
