Step by step

How to sell personalized gifts online in 6 steps.

  1. Turn fixed choices into options

Wood type, font, thread color and size become options with their own prices and stock. Photograph a finished piece in each font and color, so buyers aren’t choosing from a list of names.

  2. Collect names and photos by request

Free text and photos come through a request form: the buyer sends the wording, dates or pet photo, the request lands in your Inbox, and you reply by email with a proof and the price.

  3. Send a proof and wait for yes

A mistyped name is the classic personalized-gift problem. Send a proof of the wording and layout, ask the buyer to confirm it in writing, and keep that email.

  4. Show examples with sample names

Photograph real finished pieces with sample names and dates in every font. Buyers want to see how a long name or a double date fits.

  5. Publish lead times and last order dates

Say how long each item takes to make, and put the last order date for Christmas, Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day on the home page weeks ahead.

  6. Write a clear returns policy

Personalized items can’t be resold, so most makers only take returns for faults. In the EU and UK, goods made to the buyer’s specifications are generally exempt from the 14-day right to cancel; say so in your policy.

Built in

A shop made for personalized gifts, not a blank template.

  • Options for every fixed choice

Font, color, size and material are options with their own price and stock, and every paid order arrives by email with the exact choices the buyer made.

  • Requests for names and photos

Mark custom pieces “price on request”. Buyers send names, dates and photos through a form, and each request lands in your Inbox for you to answer by email.

  • Holiday codes with end dates

Create a discount code that ends on your last order date, so the offer and your workshop’s capacity line up.

  • Words for every occasion

Ask the assistant to write descriptions for a wedding collection or a Mother’s Day page, then apply the ones that sound like you.

Good to know

  • Logos and photos need permission

For corporate gifts and portraits, reproduce only logos, characters and photos the buyer has the right to use, and say so in your terms.

  • Keep only the details you need

Names, birthdays and family photos are personal data. Ask only for what you need to make the gift, and delete photos once the order is finished.

  • Baby gifts are children’s products

Personalized baby items can fall under children’s product safety rules. Avoid small parts and long cords, and check what applies where you sell.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

How do customers tell me the name to engrave?

Through a request form: mark the item “price on request”, and the buyer sends the wording and their choices. You reply by email with a proof before you make anything.

Do I have to accept returns on personalized gifts?

In the EU and UK, items made to the buyer’s specifications are generally exempt from the right to cancel, though faulty items still have to be put right. Check the rules where you sell and state your policy on every product.

How do I avoid spelling mistakes on personalized orders?

Ask buyers to type the wording exactly as it should appear, send a proof, and only start once they’ve confirmed it in writing.

Can businesses order personalized gifts in bulk?

Yes. Mark corporate orders “price on request”, so companies send quantities, logos and dates through a form, and turn on tax ID collection for business buyers who order at checkout.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
