Step by step

How to sell chocolate online in 6 steps.

  1. Separate bars from bonbons

Solid bars keep for months; fresh-cream bonbons often only a few weeks. Show the shelf life on each product, and treat bonbon boxes as small batches with their own stock.

  2. Plan around the heat

Chocolate softens well below body temperature. Ship early in the week with insulation and cold packs in warm months, or stop shipping bonbons in summer and say so on the page.

  3. Prepare the holiday peaks early

Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day and the winter holidays bring most chocolate gifting. Add gift boxes weeks ahead with limited stock and a clear last order date.

  4. Describe origin and percentage

For bars, give the cocoa origin, percentage, ingredients and tasting notes in the same order every time. Chocolate lovers compare bars the way wine drinkers compare bottles.

  5. Photograph the snap and the inside

A broken bar showing a clean snap, a cut bonbon showing the filling, and the box from above. Keep hot lights away, so the chocolate looks the way it will arrive.

  6. Give companies their own page

Companies order dozens of boxes with their logo before the holidays. A corporate gifts page marked “price on request” collects the quantity, delivery date and branding.

Built in

A shop made for chocolate, not a blank template.

  • Batches and holiday stock

Each box and bar has its own stock, so a limited Easter collection closes itself when it sells out and your everyday bars keep selling.

  • Corporate gift requests

Corporate boxes hide their price and cart button. Companies send quantities, dates and logo details through a form, and the request lands in your Inbox for you to quote.

  • Shipping rates with estimates

On any paid plan, set a standard and an express rate with delivery estimates, choose the countries you ship to, and add a free-shipping code above an order amount.

  • A chocolate club on Growth

A monthly bar or box billed by Stripe, with optional free trial days. Subscribers see the plan in their account, and you choose what goes in each shipment.

Good to know

  • What “chocolate” means by law

In the US, the UK and the EU, names like chocolate and milk chocolate are tied to minimum cocoa content. If a product uses other fats or less cocoa, check what you’re allowed to call it.

  • Allergens and may-contain notes

Milk, soy, tree nuts and peanuts are the usual ones. If nut and nut-free products share your kitchen, say so plainly on every product. Buyers with allergies read this line first.

  • Licensed kitchen or cottage food

Some US states allow chocolate bark and simple candies under cottage food laws, but fresh-cream truffles often need refrigeration and a licensed kitchen. In the UK and EU you register as a food business. Check the rules for each product.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

How do I ship chocolate in summer?

Use insulated liners and cold packs, ship at the start of the week by a fast service, and avoid parcels sitting over a weekend. Many chocolatiers stop shipping filled chocolates in the hottest weeks and say so on the website.

How long does homemade chocolate last?

Solid bars can keep for many months stored cool and dry. Fresh-cream ganache bonbons are much shorter, often a few weeks. Test your own recipes and put a best-before date on every product.

Can I take corporate chocolate orders on my website?

Yes. Mark corporate gift boxes “price on request”, and businesses send the quantity, date and logo through a form. The request lands in your Cornerrr Inbox, and business buyers can add a tax ID when they pay.

Can I sell chocolate in euros and dollars?

Each store has one currency. On the Pro plan you can add prices in other currencies, each shown on its own web address, which suits a chocolatier with buyers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
