Step by step

How to sell leather goods online in 6 steps.

  1. Explain your leather in plain words

Full-grain, top-grain, vegetable-tanned, chrome-tanned: most shoppers don’t know the difference. A short page on why you use what you use, and how it ages, helps them understand your price.

  2. Set colors, sizes and stamping as options

A wallet in four colors, a belt in waist sizes, and stamping as an option with its own price. Email the customer for the letters after the order, or take stamped pieces as requests with a form that asks for them.

  3. Give belts a sizing method

Ask buyers to measure a belt they own from the fold at the buckle to the hole they use most, or to add a set amount to their pants size. Put the method in a size guide and on every belt page.

  4. Photograph the stitching and the edges

Close-ups of saddle stitching, burnished edges and the grain show the handwork. Add a photo of a piece after a year of use so buyers see the patina they’re paying for.

  5. Make corporate gifts a request

Companies order embossed card holders and notebook covers for clients and staff. A corporate page with the price hidden and a form for quantity, logo and date brings those orders to your Inbox.

  6. Plan around gift dates

Father’s Day, graduations, anniversaries (the third is traditionally leather) and the winter holidays are the peak weeks. Post the last order date for stamped pieces well ahead of each one.

Built in

A shop made for leather goods, not a blank template.

  • Options with their own price

Colors, sizes and stamping can each be an option, with its own price and stock. A size 34 belt in tan sells out on its own, without closing the others.

  • Corporate and bespoke requests

Pieces made to a customer’s idea work as requests with the price hidden. Each request lands in your Inbox and by email for you to quote.

  • Stock that matches your bench

Keep stock low and honest, or turn on “sell when out of stock” for pieces you make to order and give the making time on the product page.

  • Words for a craft business

Cornerrr writes your About page and product descriptions around your workshop and your process, and the assistant can add care instructions to every piece at once.

Good to know

  • Chromium in Europe

In the EU, leather articles that touch the skin have a strict limit on chromium VI, which can form in chrome-tanned leather. Vegetable-tanned leather sidesteps it, and your tannery can confirm testing for chrome-tanned hides.

  • Exotic leathers and borders

Skins such as python or crocodile can need CITES permits to cross borders, even as a finished wallet or strap. Check before you buy, list or ship them abroad.

  • Name the leather honestly

Call a piece full-grain or top-grain only when it is, and name bonded or split leather as such; in the US, the FTC’s leather guides cover these words. Your tannery can tell you what each hide is.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Questions

Good to know

How do I explain patina to customers?

Show a new piece next to one that’s been used for a year, and say in the description that vegetable-tanned leather darkens and softens with light and handling. Buyers who expect it see it as a feature, not a flaw.

How do I take orders for initials or monograms?

Either add stamping as an option with its own price and email the customer for the letters, or take it as a request with the price hidden. On Cornerrr, requests land in your Inbox with the letters and the piece written out.

Can I sell leather goods to companies as gifts?

Yes. A corporate gifts page with the price hidden takes requests for quantity, logo and delivery date. They land in your Inbox, and you reply with a quote, a sample photo and timing.

Which leather is best for wallets and belts?

Many makers use vegetable-tanned leather for belts and wallets because it’s firm, takes stamping well and ages with a patina. Chrome-tanned leather is softer and more water-resistant, which suits bags and linings.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
