Step by step

How to sell handbags online in 6 steps.

  1. Give the size in numbers and in things

Width, height, depth and strap drop in inches and centimeters, then what fits: a 13-inch laptop, a water bottle, a phone and keys. Shoppers can’t hold the bag, so they picture it with their own things.

  2. Show inside, outside and on a body

Photograph the front, back, base and inside with the pockets open, a close-up of the hardware and stitching, and the bag worn on a shoulder or across the body. A photo on a person shows the scale no number can.

  3. Turn colors into options

Each style is one product with color as an option and stock for each. Checkout stops when the tan runs out, while the black keeps selling.

  4. Name the materials precisely

Give the leather type and tannage or the canvas weight, the lining, the hardware finish and the closure. If it isn’t animal leather, say what it is, such as polyurethane or cork, rather than only “vegan leather”.

  5. Open a page for boutiques

Stores that want to stock your bags send their order through a wholesale page with the price hidden. Requests land in your Inbox, and you answer with your line sheet and terms.

  6. Release in small batches

A small batch in a few colors is easier to fund than a big production run. Collect newsletter sign-ups for the next release, and turn on “sell when out of stock” only when you can say when the next batch arrives.

Built in

A shop made for handbags, not a blank template.

  • Colors with their own stock

Each color has its own stock count and SKU, and stock goes down when an order is paid. When a batch sells through, checkout stops for that color only.

  • Pay later for bigger purchases

Turn on Klarna, Afterpay/Clearpay or Affirm in your Stripe Dashboard and, where Stripe supports them for your country and currency, they show at checkout next to cards and wallets.

  • Wholesale requests

Boutiques ask for line sheets and order through a form. Each request lands in your Inbox and by email, and you reply with your terms and minimums.

  • A care page written for you

Ask the assistant to write a care page for leather and canvas and link it from every bag, then edit it into your own words.

Good to know

  • What you can call leather

In the US, the FTC’s guides on leather products say imitation leather can’t be described as leather, and bonded or split leather should be named as such. In Europe the rules vary by country, so describe the material plainly.

  • Shipping a bag in shape

Stuff the bag with tissue so it keeps its shape, wrap the hardware, and put it in a dust bag inside a box. Tell customers what the dust bag is for, so it doesn’t get thrown away.

  • Cost the whole batch

Samples, factory minimums or your own hours, leather, hardware, linings and dust bags all go into the cost of a bag. Work out the cost per bag for the batch size you can really sell.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

How do I photograph handbags for my website?

Use daylight, a plain backdrop and the same angles for every bag: front, side, back, base and inside. Stuff the bag so it holds its shape, and add one photo worn by a person for scale.

Can I sell handbags on my own website and to boutiques?

Yes. Shoppers buy at your listed price, and boutiques order through a wholesale page with the price hidden. On Cornerrr, paid orders arrive in your Orders list and wholesale requests in your Inbox.

Can I sell pre-owned designer handbags?

Yes, as long as each bag is authentic and you can say how you know. List each one with a stock of one, photograph the serial number or date code and any wear, and keep receipts or authentication records. Selling counterfeits is illegal in the US and Europe.

How many colors should a new handbag come in?

Two or three is a common start: a neutral like black or tan, plus one seasonal color. Every color adds stock to fund, so add more once you see which sells.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
