Step by step

How to sell handmade jewelry online in 6 steps.

  1. Tell the story behind the bench

Write who you are, where you work, what you make with and why. A photo of your hands at the bench, your tools and your workspace does more for a handmade shop than a polished logo.

  2. Decide what’s in stock and what’s made to order

Keep a few ready pieces with real stock, and turn on “sell when out of stock” for designs you make once they’re ordered. Put the making time on each made-to-order page so nobody expects it tomorrow.

  3. Show the process, not only the result

Add photos of a ring at each stage: the wire, the soldered band, the stone setting, the polish. It explains the price without a word and helps buyers see that each piece will be a little different.

  4. Say plainly that no two are identical

Hammered textures, stone colors and hand-sized bands vary. One line on each product page sets the right expectation and heads off a “this doesn’t match the photo” email.

  5. Count your bench hours in the price

Metal, stones, solder, findings, packaging and payment fees are the easy part. Time your making for a week and include it, or you won’t be able to sell to shops at a wholesale price later.

  6. Take commissions without a backlog

List custom work with the price hidden and a request form for the metal, stone, size and occasion. Say how many commissions you take each month, and when you’re full, say so on the page.

Built in

A shop made for handmade jewelry, not a blank template.

  • Made to order, made clear

Turn on “sell when out of stock” for pieces you make after an order, and write the making time on the product. Orders arrive by email and in your Orders list, ready for your bench.

  • Commissions in your Inbox

Custom work goes through a request form, with the price hidden. Each request lands in your Inbox and your email, and you answer with sketches, a quote and timing.

  • Listings from a photo of your piece

Photograph a new ring and Cornerrr drafts the title, description, alt text and tags. You add the metal, the stone and the making details only you know.

  • Your fairs on the home page

List your next craft fairs and markets on the home page, so local buyers can see your pieces in person, and send fair visitors to the website for made-to-order sizes.

Good to know

  • Metal words and marks

Call a piece sterling silver only if it is, and say plated or filled where that applies; in the US the FTC’s jewelry guides define these terms. In the UK, silver over a small exemption weight must be hallmarked before it’s sold as silver, so many makers send pieces to an assay office.

  • Nickel-free claims

Findings like ear wires and jump rings can contain nickel. In the EU and UK there are legal limits on nickel release for jewelry worn against the skin, stricter for piercing posts. Buy findings from suppliers who share their test results before you say nickel-free.

  • Packaging is part of the piece

Handmade jewelry is often bought as a gift. A small box, a care card and a note on how the piece was made make it feel worth the price, and they protect it in the mail.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Questions

Good to know

How long should made-to-order jewelry take?

Whatever you can keep to in your busiest month, plus a few days. Give the making time and the shipping time separately on each product, and update both before the holidays.

Can I sell handmade jewelry from home?

Usually, yes, though many places ask home businesses to register or hold a basic license. Check with your city, county or local council, and ask your insurer about tools and stock kept at home.

How do I photograph small jewelry with my phone?

Use daylight by a window, a white card to bounce light into the shadows, and your phone’s zoom or a clip-on macro lens instead of moving closer. Wipe each piece before shooting; fingerprints show.

Can I offer custom jewelry without a fixed price?

Yes. On Cornerrr any product can hide its price and cart button and show a request form instead. The customer describes the piece they want, and you reply with a price by email.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
