Step by step

How to sell baby products online in 6 steps.

  1. Check which rules apply to each product

In the US, products for children 12 and under need testing and a Children’s Product Certificate, and nursery items such as carriers, cribs and bath seats have their own mandatory standards and registration cards. Check each product with the CPSC before you list it.

  2. Leave out what experts warn against

Padded crib bumpers and inclined sleepers are banned in the US, and health agencies warn against amber teething necklaces and loose bedding for sleep. Keep them out of your shop, even if other sellers list them.

  3. Lead with materials and care

Fabric, fill, where it’s made and how it washes. Parents check fiber content and wash temperature before anything else, and gift buyers want to know it can go in the machine.

  4. Build gift boxes for showers and births

Baby shower and new-baby gifts are a big part of the year for many baby shops. Make ready-made gift boxes their own products with their own stock, and add gift wrapping as an option.

  5. Photograph products, not just babies

Use flat lays and nursery scenes to show size and texture. If you photograph a baby, get written permission from the parents and never show an unsafe sleep setup.

  6. Sort by age and stage

Newborn, three to six months, toddler: group products by stage and give the age on each one. It helps first-time parents and gift buyers alike.

Good to know

  • Tracking labels and certificates

In the US, baby products need a permanent tracking label and a Children’s Product Certificate based on lab tests. Keep the certificates on file, because shops that stock your products may ask for them.

  • Selling in Europe and the UK

Baby products sold in the EU must be safe under the General Product Safety Regulation, with the maker’s details and warnings on the listing, and toys such as rattles and soft toys need CE marking. In Great Britain, look for UKCA or CE.

  • No health claims

Avoid saying a product soothes colic, eases teething or improves sleep. Health claims about babies draw close scrutiny, and parents trust plain facts more.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

What do I need to sell baby products in the US?

Most baby products need testing at a CPSC-accepted lab, a Children’s Product Certificate and a tracking label, and nursery products like carriers and cribs have extra standards. The CPSC’s business guidance walks through it product by product.

Can I sell handmade baby blankets?

Yes. Give the fabric and care details, and describe them as play mats, stroller blankets or keepsakes, since safe-sleep advice is to keep loose blankets out of a young baby’s crib.

How do I sell baby shower gift boxes online?

Name them by occasion, show everything inside and offer gift wrapping as an option. On Cornerrr each box has its own stock, and the buyer can enter the parents’ address at checkout to send it straight to them.

Can I sell baby products to Europe from the US?

You can, but the EU expects a business based in the EU to be responsible for product safety, and some products need CE marking. Start with the countries you know and add others on Cornerrr when you’re ready.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
