Step by step

How to sell sewing patterns online in 6 steps.

  1. Test before you launch

Have sewists of different sizes and heights make the pattern, then fix the fit and the instructions before release. With their permission, their photos of finished garments become your most convincing product images.

  2. Ship every print format in one download

Include A4 and US Letter pages with a test square, A0 and 36-inch-wide copy shop files, and a projector file. Layered PDFs let sewists print only the sizes they need.

  3. Put both size tables on the page

Body measurements help sewists choose a size; finished garment measurements show how much ease there is. Show both on the product page, in inches and centimeters, not only inside the instructions.

  4. Show line drawings and real bodies

Add technical drawings of the front and back and each view, then photos on testers of different sizes. Sewists look at the seam lines and at the fit on someone shaped like them.

  5. List fabric and notions clearly

Suggested fabrics, yardage for each size in yards and meters, and notions such as zip length, buttons and elastic width. People take this list to the fabric store, so keep it easy to screenshot.

  6. Write sew-along posts for tricky steps

On the Growth plan, add blog posts that walk through a fly front or a set-in sleeve with photos, and mention them on the pattern page. They answer support questions before they arrive.

Built in

A shop made for sewing patterns, not a blank template.

  • Every print format in one purchase

Attach print-at-home, copy shop and projector PDFs plus the instructions to one pattern. Buyers download them after payment, and again from their account when they sew it a second time.

  • Printed patterns with stock

Paper patterns are their own products with stock counts and your fixed shipping rates, and checkout stops when the last envelope is sold. PDF-only orders don’t need a delivery address.

  • Capsule bundles and release codes

Sell a group of patterns as one bundle, and run a release-week discount code that ends on a date you choose or applies only above a minimum order.

  • Listings from a photo of the garment

Upload a photo of the finished piece and Cornerrr drafts the listing, alt text and tags for you to correct with sizes, fabrics and skill level.

Good to know

  • Say what buyers may make and sell

Many sewists sell what they make. Say in your terms whether you allow small-batch selling of garments made from the pattern, and that the pattern files themselves may not be shared or resold.

  • Give the stretch a knit needs

If a pattern needs stretch fabric, state the stretch percentage and add a stretch guide to the printout. It’s the detail that decides whether a knit garment fits.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Questions

Good to know

What should a PDF sewing pattern include?

Print-at-home pages in A4 and US Letter with a test square, a copy shop file, ideally a projector file, a size chart, finished measurements, fabric requirements and illustrated instructions. Layers let sewists print just their size.

Can I sell sewing patterns and fabric kits together?

Yes. Sell the kit as its own product with stock, posted with your shipping rates, and include a printed copy of the pattern in the parcel or sell the PDF beside it.

Can I sell a pattern based on another designer’s pattern?

Copying another designer’s pattern files, drawings or instructions can infringe their rights. Draft your own pieces and write your own instructions, and ask a lawyer if you’re unsure where the line is.

How does Cornerrr deliver PDF sewing patterns?

Mark the pattern as a download and attach the files. After payment the order email points the buyer to them, and they’re kept in the buyer’s account. Downloads come with any paid plan.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
