Step by step

How to sell scarves online in 6 steps.

  1. Give the exact size and weight

A 90 cm square, a small bandana and a long wrap all wear differently. Give the dimensions in inches and centimeters, the fabric and, for silk, its momme weight, which tells buyers how substantial it feels.

  2. Show the whole print and the scarf worn

Photograph each scarf flat to show the full design, then worn three or four ways: at the neck, in the hair, tied to a bag. Many buyers aren’t sure how to wear a silk square, and those photos answer it.

  3. Turn colorways into options

Each design is one product with its colorways as options and stock for each, so the blue can sell out on its own while the rust keeps selling.

  4. Write a styling page

A page of simple ways to tie and wear a scarf, with a photo for each, gives people a reason to buy a second one and is the kind of page they come back to.

  5. Describe the hem and finish

Hand-rolled hems, fringe, raw edges or a machine-stitched edge: say which and show it in a close-up. On silk, a hand-rolled hem is one of the details buyers look for.

  6. Package as a gift by default

Many scarves are bought as presents. Fold each one in tissue in a flat box or envelope with a care card, and offer gift boxing as an option with its own price.

Built in

A shop made for scarves, not a blank template.

  • Colorways with their own stock

Every colorway keeps its own stock and SKU, so you can print a small run of a new color and see how it sells before printing more.

  • Styling posts on your blog

On the Growth plan, a blog on your website holds tying guides, the stories behind new prints and seasonal looks, each with its own search title and description.

  • Gift boxing as an option

Add gift boxing as an option with its own price on any scarf. Customers choose it on the product page, and the choice comes through with the order.

  • Listings from your photos

Upload a flat-lay of a new print and Cornerrr drafts the title, description, alt text and tags, ready for you to add the fabric and size.

Good to know

  • Silk, cashmere and blends

Call a scarf silk or cashmere only if the fiber is, and give blends in percentages. In the US, cashmere has a legal definition under the wool labeling rules, and in the EU and UK, fiber composition must be shown before purchase.

  • Rights to the artwork

If you print other artists’ designs, agree in writing how they’re credited and paid. Designs based on brands, logos or characters need permission, even when you redraw them.

  • Care for silk

Hand wash in cool water with a gentle detergent or dry clean, and press on low heat from the back. Silk prints fade in strong sunlight, so say how to store them too.

Questions

Good to know

What size should a silk scarf be?

Common sizes are small squares of around 50 to 70 cm for the neck or a bag, larger squares around 90 cm to tie at the neck or wear as a head scarf, and long oblong scarves for wrapping. Offer the sizes your designs suit best.

How do I get my designs printed on silk?

Most small labels work with a digital textile printer that prints on silk twill or crepe in small runs, then hems the scarves or sends them to be hand-rolled. Ask for a sample on each fabric before you order a run.

Can I sell scarves as part of a gift set?

Yes. A gift set can be its own product with its own photos and stock, for example a scarf with a matching hair tie. On Cornerrr you can also offer gift boxing as an option with its own price.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
