Step by step

How to sell candy online in 6 steps.

  1. Choose candies that survive the post

Hard candy, brittle and wrapped caramels travel well. Fudge needs airtight wrapping, and anything coated in chocolate needs a plan for warm weather or a pause in summer.

  2. Keep out the damp

Hard candy and brittle go sticky in humid air. Wrap pieces, seal bags airtight, and tell buyers to store candy sealed and away from heat once it arrives.

  3. Make favors a request

Wedding and party favors need names, colors and quantities. Mark them “price on request” and ask for the date, guest count and colors, so you can quote and plan the batch.

  4. Photograph texture up close

A cut square of fudge, a snapped piece of brittle, a pile of wrapped caramels, in daylight and close up. Candy sells on how it looks to bite into.

  5. Use bag sizes as options

A small bag to try, a large bag for regulars and a tin for gifts, each with its own price and stock. Set sizes keep packing quick and checkout simple.

  6. Plan for the candy calendar

Halloween, the winter holidays, Valentine’s Day and Easter. Add seasonal mixes and tins ahead of each, with limited stock and a last order date for delivery.

Built in

A shop made for candy, not a blank template.

  • Flavors and sizes with their own stock

One fudge product can offer six flavors and two sizes, each with its own price and stock, so a sold-out maple fudge doesn’t close the whole range.

  • Favor requests to your Inbox

Favor bags hide their price and cart button. Customers send the date, guest count and colors, and you reply with a quote by email.

  • Holiday discount codes

On any paid plan, run a code for the week before Halloween or free shipping on tins, with start and end dates and a limit of one use per customer.

  • A candy club on Growth

A monthly box of new flavors billed by Stripe. Subscribers see their plan in their account, and you choose what goes in each box.

Good to know

  • Colors have rules

In the EU and UK, candy with certain synthetic colors must carry a warning about effects on children’s activity and attention, and the EU no longer allows titanium dioxide (E171). In the US, the FDA has revoked approval of Red No. 3 in food. Check every color you use.

  • Cottage food and candy

Many US cottage food laws allow fudge, brittle, hard candy and caramels, while candy with alcohol or fresh-cream fillings is usually excluded. In the UK and EU you register as a food business. Check your local rules.

  • Nuts and shared equipment

Brittle, toffee and fudge often contain nuts. If nut and nut-free candy are made on the same equipment, say so on every product, so buyers see it before they pay.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

Can I sell homemade fudge online?

In many US states, yes, under cottage food laws, though some limit sales to buyers in the state or set a yearly sales cap. In the UK and EU you register your kitchen as a food business. Check your state or council rules first.

How do I keep candy from melting or sticking in the mail?

Wrap pieces individually, seal bags airtight, and ship chocolate-coated candy with cold packs or not at all in hot weeks. Use a fast service so parcels don’t sit in a warm depot.

Can I sell candy by weight?

Sell set bag sizes instead. Each size is an option with its own price and stock, which keeps checkout simple and your packing consistent. Write the weight of each bag on the page.

Do I need nutrition labels on homemade candy?

In the US, small businesses can often claim an exemption from nutrition facts labels, but ingredients and allergens are still needed. In the UK and EU there are exemptions for small makers selling directly or locally. Check what applies to you.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
