Step by step

How to sell cookies online in 6 steps.

  1. Separate everyday boxes from custom sets

Chocolate chip boxes and holiday tins can be products with a price and stock. Decorated sets with names, logos or colors change every time, so list them “price on request” and quote each one.

  2. Ask for what a custom set needs

Your request form should ask for the event date, quantity, theme or colors and any wording, and invite customers to send a reference picture by reply email. Missing one of these means another round of emails.

  3. Give a lead time and a minimum

Decorated cookies take days of piping and drying. Say “two weeks’ notice, one dozen minimum” on the custom page so last-minute requests don’t pile up in your busiest week.

  4. Seal and cushion every cookie

Heat-sealed cookies stay fresh longer and arrive in one piece. Say on each product how they’re packed and how many days they keep, because people sending them as gifts always ask.

  5. Photograph the open box

Shoot from above with the lid off, in daylight, so the whole set shows. For decorated cookies, add one close-up of the icing detail. It shows your skill better than any description.

  6. Plan the holiday tins early

The winter holidays, Valentine’s Day, Easter and back-to-school bring the biggest cookie orders. Add each seasonal tin a few weeks ahead with limited stock, and post the last order date for delivery.

Built in

A shop made for cookies, not a blank template.

  • Flavors as options

One “Mix your box” product can offer flavors or box sizes as options, each with its own price and stock, so a sold-out flavor stops without closing the whole box.

  • Custom requests in your Inbox

Decorated sets and logo cookies hide their price and cart button. Customers send the date and theme through a form, the request lands in your Inbox, and you reply with a quote by email.

  • Discount codes for big orders

On any paid plan, create a free-shipping code above an order amount, or a code for a company that orders every quarter, with start and end dates and usage limits.

  • Shipping emails with tracking

Add the carrier and tracking number to an order and your customer gets a shipping email with a tracking link, so gift buyers know when the tin will arrive.

Good to know

  • Cottage food rules for cookies

Shelf-stable cookies are among the foods most US cottage food laws allow, but cream cheese frostings and fillings usually aren’t, and some states limit online or out-of-state sales. Check your state’s list before you add a flavor.

  • Edible decorations only

Some glitters and dusts sold for baking are labeled “non-toxic” or “for decoration only” rather than edible. Use only products sold as edible on anything a customer will eat, and keep their labels in case anyone asks.

  • Charge for design time

Custom sets take sketching, color mixing and hours of piping. Price them per cookie with a separate design charge for new artwork, and explain up front why custom costs more than a box.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

How do I ship cookies so they don’t break?

Seal each cookie, pack them snugly in layers with no room to slide, and put the tin or box inside a slightly larger shipping box with padding. Ship at the start of the week so parcels don’t wait in a depot.

Can customers order custom decorated cookies on my website?

Yes. List custom sets “price on request”: customers send the date, quantity and theme through a short form, the request lands in your Cornerrr Inbox and you answer by email with a quote.

How long do homemade cookies stay fresh in the mail?

It depends on the recipe. Sealed crisp and chewy cookies often keep about a week, and decorated sugar cookies can last longer. Mail a box to yourself to test, and write the keeping time on each product.

Can I sell cookies to coffee shops too?

Yes. Add a wholesale page marked “price on request” so cafés can ask for trade prices and weekly quantities. First check your license allows it, because many cottage food laws only allow sales directly to consumers.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
