Step by step

How to sell greeting cards online in 6 steps.

  1. Sort by occasion first

People shop for a reason: a birthday this week, a new baby, a loss. Make a collection for each occasion and put the next big holiday at the top of your home page.

  2. Say what comes in the sleeve

Size, card weight, blank or with a message inside, envelope color, and whether it comes in a cello sleeve or plastic-free. Buyers want to know before they pay.

  3. Photograph front, inside and envelope

Show the front straight on, the inside open, and the card with its envelope. A photo of a hand holding the card shows the size at a glance.

  4. Sell packs and boxed sets

Single cards make small orders. Packs of thank-you cards, boxed holiday sets and a mixed birthday pack raise the order and suit people who keep a drawer of cards.

  5. Start the holidays early

Holiday cards sell from autumn, and shops order theirs months ahead. List them early, and put your last posting date for holiday delivery on the page.

  6. Open a wholesale route for shops

Gift shops and stationers buy cards in packs of each design. Add a wholesale page with “price on request” so shops can ask for your line sheet and terms.

Built in

A shop made for greeting cards, not a blank template.

  • Collections by occasion

File one card in more than one collection, such as Birthday and Funny, so shoppers find it however they browse.

  • Singles and packs with stock

Each card can come as a single or a pack as options, each with its own price, SKU and stock.

  • Wholesale requests

Shops ask for your line sheet and trade terms through a price-on-request form. The request lands in your Inbox, and you reply by email.

  • Discounts for the holidays

On any paid plan, set a discount code for boxed sets with start and end dates, or free shipping above an order amount.

Good to know

  • Square cards cost more to mail

In the US, square envelopes and stiff or lumpy cards (with buttons or ribbon) usually need extra postage. Say so on the product page, so the card your buyer sends doesn’t come back.

  • Weigh a single and a set

One card with a stiff board can often go as a letter or large letter, but a boxed set is a parcel. Weigh a packed order of each and set a fixed rate that fits.

  • Your own art and words

Lines from songs, films and books can be under copyright, and so can characters. Use your own artwork and wording, or check permission before you print.

How it works

From a few words to a shop that takes payments, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

How do I sell my greeting cards to shops?

Make a line sheet with each design, its code and pack size, and add a wholesale page with “price on request”. Shops send their details, the request lands in your Inbox, and you reply by email with terms and the line sheet.

Should greeting cards be blank inside?

Many makers sell most cards blank so they suit more people, and print a message only where it helps, such as sympathy or holiday sets. Say on each page which it is.

Can customers send a card straight to someone else?

Customers can enter any shipping address at Stripe checkout, so a card can go straight to the person it’s for. If you offer handwritten messages, explain on the page how customers send you the words.

When should I start selling holiday cards?

Shops often order holiday cards in summer, and shoppers start buying in autumn. Have your holiday range ready for wholesale enquiries by midsummer and on your website by early autumn.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
