Cornerrr in Hungary
Write a sentence or two about your business in Hungarian and Cornerrr builds a webshop in Hungarian, with products, a request form and a Stripe checkout in forint. Hungary has the EU’s highest VAT rate and its own invoicing rules, so start here.
Payments
Hungarians pay online by card, with Apple Pay and Google Pay, and for many orders by cash on delivery (utánvét). Local gateways such as SimplePay and Barion are familiar names, but they aren’t part of Stripe. Through Stripe you can take cards, wallets and Revolut Pay in forint. PayPal isn’t available through Cornerrr’s checkout, so name the methods you do take on your payment page.
Before you start
Hungary’s standard VAT (ÁFA) is 27%, with 18% and 5% for some goods and services. Prices for consumers must include it, so set your prices from the gross amount you want customers to pay.
The small-business exemption (alanyi adómentesség) covers yearly turnover up to HUF 20 million in 2026, rising to HUF 22 million in 2027 and HUF 24 million in 2028. Above it, you charge ÁFA.
Hungary’s tax office receives invoice data in real time through Online Számla, sales to consumers included. Webshops usually invoice each order from a program that reports to it; Stripe’s invoices don’t, so ask your accountant which to use.
Hungarian webshops show an impresszum with the company name, address, tax number (adószám), registration number and contact details, and publish general terms (ÁSZF). Add both as pages; the AI drafts terms and policies for you to review.
Consumers can withdraw from online purchases within 14 days. Give them the model withdrawal form and name the conciliation board (békéltető testület) they can turn to with a complaint.
Above €10,000 a year of consumer sales to other EU countries, charge their VAT through the One-Stop Shop instead of registering abroad. Read this as a starting point, not legal or tax advice.
General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.
Cornerrr
Set your store’s currency to HUF and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.
Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.
Describe your business in Hungarian and Cornerrr writes your pages in Hungarian. Stripe Checkout shows in Hungarian too. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today.
Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Local tips
Foxpost and Packeta lockers, MPL from Magyar Posta, and couriers such as GLS, DPD and Express One are the usual choices. Set one fixed rate for locker delivery and one for home delivery, each with a delivery estimate.
Consumers think in gross (bruttó) prices, business buyers often in net (nettó). Show the gross price on every product, and if you sell to companies too, turn on tax ID collection at checkout so they can enter their tax number.
Hungarian shoppers want to know when a parcel arrives and where they can pick it up. Put delivery times and your locker options on each product page, not only in the terms.
