Payments

How people in Luxembourg pay online.

Shoppers in Luxembourg mostly pay by card, often through Apple Pay or Google Pay on their phone. Many of your customers may be cross-border workers who live in France, Belgium or Germany, so methods that work across borders, such as cards, Amazon Pay and Revolut Pay, matter more than any one local app. SEPA Direct Debit suits regular payments from any euro bank account.

Before you start

Selling online in Luxembourg: what to know.

  1. A business permit first

Most commercial activities in Luxembourg, online shops included, need a business permit (autorisation d’établissement) from the Ministry of the Economy before you start. Guichet.lu explains the steps and the documents.

  2. VAT at 17%, or the franchise

Luxembourg’s 17% is the lowest standard VAT rate in the EU. With turnover up to €50,000 a year you can use the franchise and charge no VAT, but you still declare your activity to the AED, the VAT office.

  3. Cross-border sales and the One-Stop Shop

Once your sales to consumers in other EU countries pass €10,000 a year in total, you charge their VAT (20% in France, 21% in Belgium, 19% in Germany) instead of 17%. The One-Stop Shop lets you declare it all in one Luxembourg return.

  4. Droit de rétractation

Consumers can withdraw within 14 days of delivery and get their money back within 14 days. From 19 June 2026, EU rules ask online shops for a clearly labeled withdrawal function as well; Cornerrr adds one to your store’s footer and emails the customer an acknowledgement of receipt; mention it in your withdrawal information.

  5. Legal details on the site

Show your name or company name, address, email, your RCS number if you have one and your VAT number. A short “Mentions légales” or “Impressum” page, linked in the footer, covers it.

  6. GDPR and the CNPD

GDPR applies, overseen by the CNPD (Commission nationale pour la protection des données). Publish a privacy policy that names the services you use, such as Stripe. Cornerrr’s AI drafts one for you to review.

General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.

Cornerrr

Built for businesses in Luxembourg

  • Prices in euros

Set your store’s currency to EUR and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.

  • VAT at checkout

Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.

  • Your words in Luxembourgish

Describe your business in Luxembourgish and Cornerrr writes your pages in Luxembourgish. Stripe Checkout shows in Luxembourgish too. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today.

  • Local ways to pay

Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Local tips

Make it feel local

  • Choose the language your customers shop in

French is the usual language of shops and signs, German reaches many residents and cross-border workers from Germany, and English suits the international community. Cornerrr writes one language per website, so choose by who buys from you most.

  • Name your rates by destination

Distances are short, but parcels to France, Belgium and Germany cost more. Every fixed rate is offered at checkout, so name them clearly, such as “Luxembourg” and “France, Belgium, Germany”, with a delivery estimate each, and check that orders used the right one.

  • Look local

A .lu address and a Luxembourg phone number tell customers you’re nearby, which matters when most big shops ship from abroad. Connect your own domain on any paid plan; HTTPS is set up automatically.

How it works

From a few words to your website, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can my website be in French or German?

Yes, in one of them, or in English: Cornerrr writes one language per website, in the language you describe your business in, and Stripe’s checkout page is translated too. A few built-in cart and account labels are in English either way; the add-to-cart and checkout buttons can be renamed.

Can I sell to France, Belgium and Germany?

Yes. Add them to the countries you ship to and name your rates by destination. Above €10,000 a year of sales to consumers in other EU countries you charge their VAT, and Stripe Tax applies each rate once you add your One-Stop Shop registration.

Do I need a business permit for an online shop?

In most cases yes: selling goods is a commercial activity, and that needs an autorisation d’établissement from the Ministry of the Economy. Guichet.lu lists the conditions. This is general information; check with the House of Entrepreneurship or an adviser.

Is Luxembourg’s lower VAT an advantage?

For sales in Luxembourg and small cross-border volumes, yes: prices with 17% VAT can look lower. Once you pass €10,000 a year of EU sales to consumers, customers abroad pay their own country’s rate, so the gap closes.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
