Step by step

How to sell nail polish online in 6 steps.

  1. Swatch on real nails in daylight

Photograph every shade on a real hand in daylight and again indoors, and say how many coats you used and whether there’s a top coat. Holographic and shimmer shades need a sunlight shot.

  2. Show more than one skin tone

The same shade reads differently on different hands. Swatch on two or three skin tones, or work with swatchers who do, and credit them by name.

  3. Release in collections

Indie polish sells in drops. Group each release as a collection, give it a launch date on your home page and a fixed stock, and let checkout stop when a shade sells out.

  4. Collect sign-ups for the next drop

Add a newsletter sign-up to your website and mention it on every sold-out shade. Export the list and send your launch note from the email tool you use.

  5. Name the finish and formula

Crème, jelly, shimmer, holo or magnetic: name the finish, how many coats it needs to be opaque and how fast it dries. Polish fans compare these more than shade names.

  6. Ship within the rules

Polish is flammable, so carriers limit how it travels, often by ground only. Set your shipping countries and rates to match, and pack bottles upright in bubble wrap.

Built in

A shop made for nail polish, not a blank template.

  • A page per shade, stock per bottle

Each shade can be its own product or an option with its own stock and SKU. When a limited shade sells out, checkout stops instead of overselling.

  • Collections for every drop

File shades into collections by season or theme, and ask the assistant to write each collection page in your brand’s voice.

  • Sign-ups you can export

A newsletter sign-up form with double opt-in gathers people who want the next drop, and you export the list to the email tool you already use.

  • Shipping countries you control

Choose where you ship and set fixed rates with delivery estimates, so you only offer the routes your carrier allows for polish.

Good to know

  • Flammable goods rules

Most nail polishes and removers are flammable liquids in shipping terms. USPS, for example, takes them within the US by ground only and not abroad, and other carriers set their own limits. Check before choosing countries.

  • “Free-from” isn’t a standard

“5-free” or “10-free” has no official definition; it only means what you say it means. Name the ingredients you leave out, and keep the full ingredient list on every page.

  • Cosmetics rules and banned ingredients

Nail polish is a cosmetic: FDA rules including MoCRA in the US, and a Responsible Person, a safety assessment and notification in the EU and UK. The EU also adds to its banned list, as with TPO in gel polish from September 2025, so recheck formulas regularly.

General information to help you get started, not legal advice. Rules differ by country, state and product, so check the ones that apply to you.

Questions

Good to know

Can I ship nail polish internationally?

Often not by national post: many postal services, USPS included, don’t accept flammable liquids like polish for addresses abroad. Some couriers do, with special packing and paperwork. Ask your carrier, and on Cornerrr only list the countries you can reach.

How should I photograph nail polish swatches?

On real nails, in daylight, with the number of coats noted, plus a bottle shot. Cornerrr can turn a swatch photo into a draft listing, which you then edit for the exact shade and finish.

Can I sell limited-edition polish drops?

Yes. Give each shade in the drop a fixed stock. Stock goes down as orders are paid and checkout stops when a shade is gone, so you never sell more bottles than you poured.

Do I need to register my nail polish brand?

In the US, MoCRA asks most cosmetic makers to register their facility and list products with the FDA, with an exemption for some small businesses. In the EU and UK, each polish needs a Responsible Person and a notification before sale.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
