Payments

How people in Finland pay online.

Finns are used to paying online straight from their bank (verkkopankki), with MobilePay and by card. Stripe’s Pay by Bank works with Finnish banks for one-off orders in euros: customers pick their bank and approve there. MobilePay covers phone shoppers, Klarna offers invoice and part payments, and Apple Pay and Google Pay come with cards. Local payment pages such as Paytrail aren’t part of Stripe.

Before you start

Selling online in Finland: what to know.

  1. VAT at 25.5% since September 2024

Finland’s standard VAT rose to 25.5% in September 2024, with lower rates for food, restaurant meals and a few other goods. Prices for consumers must include VAT; Stripe Tax can add the right rate at checkout on any paid plan.

  2. No VAT registration under €20,000

If your turnover stays under €20,000 in both the current and the previous calendar year, you don’t have to register for VAT. Once it goes over, register with Vero, the Finnish Tax Administration, and start charging VAT.

  3. Selling across the EU

Above €10,000 a year of sales to consumers in other EU countries, charge their local VAT. You can report it all through the One-Stop Shop in MyTax (OmaVero) rather than registering in each country.

  4. Åland is outside the EU VAT area

Åland is part of Finland but sits outside the EU VAT area, so orders shipped there from the mainland count as exports for VAT and need customs paperwork. In address forms it has its own country code (AX).

  5. Peruuttamisoikeus, and faults with no fixed end date

Customers can cancel online purchases within 14 days (peruuttamisoikeus). For faulty goods, Finnish law sets no fixed time limit: your liability lasts as long as the product could reasonably be expected to.

  6. Y-tunnus and privacy

Show your business name, Y-tunnus (business ID), address and email, and a privacy policy that says what you collect and why, as GDPR requires. This page is general information, not legal or tax advice.

General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.

Cornerrr

Built for businesses in Finland

  • Prices in euros

Set your store’s currency to EUR and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.

  • VAT at checkout

Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.

  • Your words in Finnish

Describe your business in Finnish and Cornerrr writes your pages in Finnish. Stripe Checkout shows in Finnish too. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today.

  • Local ways to pay

Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Local tips

Make it feel local

  • Ship to parcel lockers

Posti’s parcel lockers and Matkahuolto’s pickup points are how many Finns collect online orders. Offer a fixed rate for locker or pickup delivery and name the carrier, so customers know where their parcel will wait.

  • Pick Finnish or Swedish for the website

Finnish reaches most customers; Swedish is an official language too, spoken mainly along the coast and in Åland. A Cornerrr website has one language, so choose the one most of your buyers use.

  • Mention bank payments up front

Plenty of Finns would rather pay from their own bank than type card details. If you turn on Pay by Bank in Stripe, say so on your delivery and payment page so buyers know before they reach checkout.

  • Show delivery costs before the cart

Finnish shoppers expect to see delivery prices and the return policy before checkout. Put your rates on a Delivery page, link it from every product, and give each rate a realistic delivery estimate.

How it works

From a few words to your website, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can my website be in Finnish?

Yes. Describe your business in Finnish and Cornerrr writes the pages and products in Finnish, and Stripe’s checkout appears in Finnish. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today, and you can rename the add-to-cart and checkout buttons.

Can Finnish customers pay from their online bank?

Yes, through Stripe’s Pay by Bank, which works with Finnish banks for one-off payments in euros. Turn it on in your Stripe Dashboard, next to MobilePay and cards. It doesn’t cover subscriptions.

Do I need to register for VAT before I start selling?

Not while your turnover stays under €20,000 a calendar year, this year and last. You can register voluntarily, which lets you deduct VAT on your costs. Check your situation with Vero or an accountant.

Which Cornerrr plan do I need to sell in Finland?

Building and previewing are free. Going live with your own .fi domain, shipping rates, discount codes and Stripe Tax needs Starter or any other paid plan; subscriptions and the blog need Growth.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
