Payments

How people in Norway pay online.

Norwegians pay online by card, many of them BankAxept debit cards co-branded with Visa or Mastercard, which Stripe runs on the Visa or Mastercard side. Klarna’s invoice and part payments are familiar, and Apple Pay and Google Pay are common on phones. Vipps, the app Norwegians also use to pay each other, isn’t available through Cornerrr’s checkout yet, so offer cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna instead.

Before you start

Selling online in Norway: what to know.

  1. Register for mva above NOK 50,000

Register in the VAT Register once your taxable sales pass NOK 50,000 in any 12-month period. You can’t add mva to your prices or invoices until you’re registered, so plan the switch before you reach the limit.

  2. Mva rates and price display

The standard rate is 25%, with 15% for food. Prices for consumers must include mva. On any paid plan, Stripe Tax can calculate Norwegian VAT at checkout once it’s active on your Stripe account.

  3. Selling to Norway from abroad: VOEC

Shops based outside Norway that sell NOK 50,000 or more to Norwegian consumers in 12 months register in the VOEC scheme and charge Norwegian VAT at checkout on items under NOK 3,000. Food and goods with excise duty can’t use it.

  4. Selling from Norway to the EU

For EU buyers, an order from Norway is an import: the parcel needs customs paperwork and the buyer owes import VAT, unless you collect it at checkout under the EU’s Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) for parcels worth up to €150.

  5. Angrerett and the five-year rule

Customers can cancel online purchases within 14 days (angrerett). For faults, Norwegian consumer law gives buyers two years to complain, or five years for goods meant to last much longer, such as furniture.

  6. Organisation number and privacy

Show your company name, organisasjonsnummer, address and email. GDPR applies in Norway through the EEA, so publish a clear privacy policy. Norwegian rules are summarized here as general information, not legal or tax advice.

General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.

Cornerrr

Built for businesses in Norway

  • Prices in NOK

Set your store’s currency to NOK and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.

  • VAT at checkout

Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.

  • Your words in Norwegian

Describe your business in Norwegian and Cornerrr writes your pages in Norwegian. Stripe Checkout shows in Norwegian too. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today.

  • Local ways to pay

Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Local tips

Make it feel local

  • Offer pickup points and home delivery

Posten and Bring, PostNord and Helthjem deliver to pickup points, parcel boxes and doors. Set a fixed rate for each option you use, with a delivery estimate that allows extra days for Northern Norway.

  • Tell buyers there’s nothing to pay on delivery

Norwegians who order from foreign shops often pay VAT and a fee when the parcel arrives. As a Norwegian shop, say clearly that your prices include mva and that nothing more is due at the door.

  • Pick Bokmål or Nynorsk and stick to it

Norwegian has two written forms. Choose the one your customers use and keep it everywhere: product pages, terms and emails. Stripe’s checkout page is in Bokmål.

  • Plan your .no domain early

A .no domain is for organisations with a Norwegian organisation number and for people registered as living in Norway. Register it once your company exists, then connect it on any paid plan.

How it works

From a few words to your website, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can my website be in Norwegian?

Yes. Describe your business in Norwegian and Cornerrr writes your pages and products in Norwegian, and Stripe’s checkout appears in Norwegian. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English, though the add-to-cart and checkout buttons can be renamed.

Can customers pay with Vipps?

Not yet: Vipps isn’t available through Cornerrr’s checkout today. Customers can pay by card, co-branded BankAxept cards included, or with Apple Pay, Google Pay or Klarna, which you turn on in your Stripe Dashboard.

Do BankAxept cards work?

Co-branded ones do. Stripe can’t use the BankAxept network itself, so it processes those cards as Visa or Mastercard. A card that carries only BankAxept won’t work.

I’m based in the EU. Can I sell to Norwegian customers?

Yes. Add Norway to your shipping countries and read the VOEC rules above. On the Pro plan you can also show prices in kroner on a separate web address, next to your main currency.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
