Payments

How people in Romania pay online.

Romanians pay online by card and with Google Pay and Apple Pay, and many still choose cash on delivery (ramburs). Through Stripe you can take cards, wallets, Revolut Pay and Klarna in lei. Cash on delivery isn’t possible on Cornerrr, and PayPal isn’t available through Cornerrr’s checkout either, so say up front which methods you take.

Before you start

Selling online in Romania: what to know.

  1. TVA at 21% since August 2025

The standard rate rose from 19% to 21% on 1 August 2025, and most goods on the old 5% and 9% rates moved to a single 11% rate. Prices for consumers must include TVA.

  2. Exemption up to RON 395,000

Since 1 September 2025, Romanian businesses with yearly turnover up to RON 395,000 can stay outside TVA. Once you pass it, you must register from the day you cross the line, so keep an eye on your running total.

  3. Invoices and RO e-Factura

Romania’s RO e-Factura system covers invoices to consumers too, with short reporting deadlines. Stripe’s invoices aren’t sent to it, so ask your accountant how your online orders are invoiced and reported.

  4. The ANPC sign for dispute resolution

Romania’s consumer authority, ANPC, asks shops, online ones included, to show its sign about alternative dispute resolution (SAL) with a link. The rule was updated in 2026 after the EU ODR platform closed, so check anpc.ro for the current version.

  5. Dreptul de retragere

Consumers can withdraw from online purchases within 14 days without giving a reason, and you refund them within 14 days. Show the steps and the withdrawal form on a returns page.

  6. Company details and privacy

Show your company name, CUI, trade register number, address and contact details, plus a privacy policy as GDPR requires. Romanian rules change often, so treat this as general information, not advice.

General information, current as of October 2026, not legal or tax advice. Rules and rates change, so check them with an accountant or adviser, or the official sources, before you rely on them.

Cornerrr

Built for businesses in Romania

  • Prices in RON

Set your store’s currency to RON and your products, shipping rates and checkout use it. Cornerrr works with about 140 currencies, one per web address.

  • VAT at checkout

Turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account and Cornerrr asks it to work out VAT for each order at checkout, on any paid plan. You can collect business customers’ VAT numbers too.

  • Your words in Romanian

Describe your business in Romanian and Cornerrr writes your pages in Romanian. Stripe Checkout shows in Romanian too. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today.

  • Local ways to pay

Checkout is Stripe’s own, so the local payment methods you turn on in Stripe show up for the customers who can use them, next to cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Local tips

Make it feel local

  • Offer easybox lockers and couriers

Sameday’s easybox lockers, Fan Courier, Cargus, DPD and GLS cover most of Romania. Set one fixed rate for locker delivery and one for courier delivery, and give each an estimate in working days.

  • Win over shoppers who prefer ramburs

Buyers often choose cash on delivery because they don’t know a shop yet. Show your company details, real photos of your products and a clear returns page, and say that card payments are handled by Stripe.

  • Keep the diacritics

Write Romanian with its diacritics (ă, â, î, ș, ț). Text without them reads as careless to many customers, so check product names, page titles and your terms before you go live.

How it works

From a few words to your website, live.

  1. Step 1: Describe your business

A sentence or two is enough: what you do, who it’s for and how people buy from you.

  2. Step 2: We build it while you watch

Cornerrr writes your pages, adds your products or services, and picks the colours, fonts and look. It takes about a minute.

  3. Step 3: Connect payments

Link a Stripe account, or create one in a few minutes. Your customers pay you directly.

  4. Step 4: You’re live

Publish on your free Cornerrr web address, or use your own. Change anything later by asking.

Questions

Good to know

Can my website be in Romanian?

Yes. Describe your business in Romanian and Cornerrr writes the pages and products in Romanian, and Stripe’s checkout appears in Romanian. A few built-in cart and account labels are still in English today; you can rename the add-to-cart and checkout buttons.

Can Romanian customers pay with Klarna?

Yes. Klarna through Stripe works for customers in Romania paying in lei. Turn it on in your Stripe Dashboard and it appears in Stripe Checkout next to cards, Google Pay and Apple Pay.

Can I offer cash on delivery (ramburs)?

No. Cornerrr sells online with payments through Stripe, so every order is paid before you ship it. Cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay and Revolut Pay are the alternatives to offer, and your delivery page should say so.

Do I need to register for TVA to sell online?

Not while your turnover stays at or under RON 395,000 a year, unless you choose to. Selling to consumers in other EU countries above €10,000 a year brings their VAT into play, through the One-Stop Shop.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
