What is Swish?

Swish is Sweden’s mobile payment app, linked to the customer’s bank account and confirmed with the BankID app. It is a real-time payment: the money moves at once and Stripe tells you right away whether it succeeded. Through Stripe, Swish takes one-time payments in Swedish kronor from customers in Sweden.

How your customers pay

  1. Choose Swish

At checkout the customer picks Swish. It appears when your store’s prices are in Swedish kronor.

  2. Open the app or scan the code

On a phone, the Swish app opens by itself. On a computer, the customer scans a QR code on the screen with the Swish app.

  3. Confirm with BankID

They confirm with BankID within three minutes. If they take longer, the request runs out and they simply try again.

  4. Paid and back

The Swish app shows a confirmation, the customer returns to your website and Cornerrr shows the order as paid.

Why offer it

Why businesses take Swish

  • Familiar for Swedish shoppers

Most of your Swedish customers will have Swish and BankID on their phone already, so there is no card to fetch and nothing new to learn.

  • Confirmed in seconds

Swish is a real-time payment, so you know at once that an order is paid and can start packing or confirm the place on your workshop.

  • No chargebacks

Swish has no card-style dispute process. A customer with a concern comes to you directly, and you decide whether to refund.

  • A year to refund

You can refund all or part of a Swish payment for up to 365 days, and refunds usually reach the customer within minutes.

Set up

Turn on Swish in three steps.

  1. Connect your Stripe account

Link the Stripe account you already have, or create one in a few minutes from Cornerrr. Payments go straight to it; Cornerrr adds no transaction fee.

  2. Turn the method on in Stripe

In your Stripe Dashboard, open the payment method settings and turn it on. Stripe may ask a few questions about your business first.

  3. It shows at checkout

Your Cornerrr checkout is Stripe Checkout, so customers who can use the method see it automatically when their country and your currency match.

Questions

Good to know

How do I offer Swish on my Cornerrr website?

Connect your Stripe account, then turn on Swish in your Stripe Dashboard’s payment method settings and accept Stripe’s Swish terms. Stripe accounts in most EU countries, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein can use it. With your store priced in Swedish kronor, Cornerrr’s Stripe Checkout offers Swish to eligible customers without any other setup.

Why does Stripe’s name show in the Swish app?

For Swish, Stripe acts as the merchant of record, so customers see Stripe as the recipient in the app and on their bank statement, with your business name in the message field. A line about it on your FAQ page saves confused emails.

Can I use Swish for subscriptions?

No. Stripe takes Swish for one-time payments only. If you sell a subscription box or a membership on the Growth plan, Swedish subscribers pay by card or another method that supports subscriptions.

Which businesses can’t take Swish through Stripe?

Swish through Stripe is for selling to consumers, not to other businesses. Stripe’s list of excluded categories includes wine and alcohol sellers, pawn shops, art dealers and galleries, legal services, jewelry and watch sellers and rental property agents, and some others, such as gift shops and schools, must give Stripe more information. Check Stripe’s Swish page for the current list.

Do I need any technical skills?

No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.

How much does it cost?

Building and previewing your website is free, with no card needed. To go live and take payments, choose a plan from $19 a month. Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial; a card is needed to start it.
