What is Bacs Direct Debit?
Bacs Direct Debit takes payments in pounds from a UK bank account. At checkout the customer gives their sort code, account number, name and address and agrees to a Direct Debit Instruction, also called a mandate. Payments are delayed: Stripe confirms them after about four working days, or up to seven while a new mandate is being set up.

How do I set up Bacs Direct Debit on Cornerrr?
Connect your Stripe account and request Bacs Direct Debit in your Stripe Dashboard’s payment method settings. Bacs needs Stripe’s approval and an extra identity check. Once it is active and your store sells in pounds, Cornerrr’s Stripe Checkout offers it to eligible UK customers automatically.
How long until a Bacs payment is confirmed?
About four working days, or up to seven for a customer’s first payment while the mandate is set up. The order waits as pending in Cornerrr, and stock and the confirmation email follow once Stripe confirms. If the debit fails, the order is marked unpaid and you hear about it by email.
Can I use Bacs Direct Debit for subscriptions?
Yes, it is built for them. On the Growth plan the customer agrees to one mandate at checkout, and Stripe Billing collects each renewal from the same account.
What if a customer disputes a Bacs payment?
Under the Direct Debit scheme there is no time limit for a customer to ask their bank for a payment back, and the bank’s decision is final. Refunds you send sit outside the scheme, so confirm them with the customer to avoid paying back twice. You can refund for up to 180 days.
Can I take Bacs Direct Debit if my business isn’t in the UK?
Yes, from customers with UK bank accounts, if your Stripe account is in the EU, Norway, Liechtenstein, the US, Canada, Australia or Singapore. Swiss Stripe accounts aren’t on Stripe’s list.
Do I need any technical skills?
No. You describe your business in your own words and Cornerrr builds the website. Afterwards you change things by clicking, or by asking the assistant in plain words.
